We’re going Topless
On Thursday November 19, 2015 the Epilepsy Association of Calgary will be ‘taking it off’ at their 8th annual, “Bare Naked Noggins Head Shave – Razing Awareness for Epilepsy” at Bankers Hall in the main atrium from noon to 1pm.
Epilepsy is a neurological condition characterized by recurrent seizures. Seizures can take many forms, from brief, almost imperceptible lapses in consciousness to severe convulsions involving a total loss of consciousness. It is estimated that approximately 1.2 – 2% of the population has epilepsy. In Calgary, this is approximately 18,000 – 20,000 individuals – enough to fill the Saddledome! Many others (families, friends, peers, teachers, co-workers) are also affected and when these people are factored in, the number of people affected climbs significantly to well over 100,000 people. Epilepsy has been known to exist throughout the history of the human species, and has frequently been associated with mental retardation, demonic possession, and insanity.
I have had the pleasure of assisting this important nonprofit organization since the June Floods about 18 months ago. I had been speaking with the Executive Director, Kathy Fyfe, for a few years prior to the floods about assisting the organization in its fundraising efforts, however, the June Floods in 2013 sped up the need for many nonprofit organizations, like the Epilepsy Association of Calgary, to consider some alternative ways to fundraise, especially coupled now with the oil concerns in Alberta. The Epilepsy Association is still working diligently to keep above water and I am very grateful to the kind testimonial Kathy has written for me which I have now included on both my web site and marketing materials:
“We were literally drowning as a result of the impact of the 2013 floods in Calgary and needed to reconnect with existing donors as well as reach out to new ones. With Mitch’s skill and expertise, not only did Mitch help increase our annual donations, he helped secure a number of three year commitments and foundation grants. EAC was in need of a life raft, which Mitch ably provided and we’re looking forward to a continued working relationship. Thank you Mitch!” Kathy Fyfe, Executive Director, Epilepsy Association of Calgary
The Epilepsy Association of Calgary, being a smaller organization, only has a few key signature events that help it raise the $400,000 budget they require to balance their books, so I hope you will either partake or pledge any one of the brave shavers and you can do this by going to their web site at http://www.epilepsycalgary.com/head-shave .
I hope you enjoy my postings and find this information useful. Please let me know what you think in the comment section of my Blog http://raveresults.ca/blog/ .
If you would like to learn more about how my experience and skills would benefit your nonprofit, or a nonprofit you may be associated with, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me as I would be pleased to meet and discuss the opportunity of working together.
