Rave Results 5th Anniversary of business
I know this is really a cliché, but time really does fly.
One reaches so many milestones in life. Besides ones that your Mom may remember better than you, like losing your first tooth, speaking and/or walking for the first time, some of the milestones that I remember most vividly are graduating High School, then taking my Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Calgary, my first job out of University, then moving and working in a new city (Toronto) in 1985 when the Alberta economy was pretty grim, moving to Los Angeles for a year in 1991, transitioning into a new career as an Investment Advisor in the mid 90’s after many years of working in the Real Estate business, and then beginning what has now being a career assisting nonprofits as a Professional Fundraiser for about 12 1/2 years.
I am so pleased to be celebrating 5 years in my own business as of November, 2015. After working for 3 really interesting nonprofits, in addition to the opportunity of running my own business, I saw an opportunity to assist various nonprofits on a contract basis (1 or 2 days a week for a period of 6 months to my longest engagement of an organization to date is 3 years) on various fundraising projects that many nonprofits may not be able to afford or require a professional fundraiser on a full-time basis.
I found some very interesting statistics to substantiate some of the reasons for my choice in establishing Rave Results, as I was able to find a very interesting report entitled: The Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector in Alberta Regional Highlights from the National Survey of Nonprofit and Voluntary Organizations by Robert Roach, former Director of Research of the Canada West Foundation. I actually had the privilege of working with Rob (however he has since moved over to ATB) when I was the Membership Manager for the Canada West Foundation in 2006/2007. I have spoken with Rob recently and received his approval to share this information in my Blog. However, he has also allowed me to share his complete report, so please email me at email@example.com and I will be pleased to share the report in its entirety.
As of 2003, there were over 19,000 nonprofit and voluntary organizations in Alberta (approximately 57% being registered charities, thus about 11,000). These organizations have 2.5 million volunteer positions, operate in areas ranging from sports and recreation and the arts to religion and post‐secondary education, generate revenues of $9.6 billion a year and employ over 175,000 people.
A relatively small number of organizations generate most of the sector’s revenues. The less than 1% of organizations in Alberta with annual revenues of $10 million or more account for half of the sector’s total annual revenues. The four in ten organizations with annual revenues of less than $30,000 collectively account for less than 1% of total annual revenues. From a financial perspective, there are a lot of small organizations running on a few thousand dollars a year, and a small number of organizations with annual revenues in the millions of dollars.
I think it is extremely important to continue supporting the larger charities, however, being a bit of an underdog (Rocky being one of my favorite movies), I see a great need to assist nonprofits that many people may not be aware of but still do great work and require funding just like any of the larger nonprofit organizations.
I have worked on 12 different fundraising projects since starting my own business 5 years ago. Please go to my website http://raveresults.ca/our-clients-testimonials/ under Clients & Testimonials for a full list of these clients and many testimonials associated with my work. I would like to thank all of my Clients for the opportunity to work with them over the years and I hope over the next 5 years and beyond I have the opportunity of working with some of them again and many more other nonprofit organizations.
I hope you enjoy my postings and find this information useful. Please let me know what you think in the comment section of my Blog http://raveresults.ca/blog/ .
If you would like to learn more about how my experience and skills would benefit your nonprofit, or a nonprofit you may be associated with, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me as I would be pleased to meet and discuss the opportunity of working together.
