Is your nonprofit, or a nonprofit you are associated with, using a CRM to help benefit it; if not, why not?
I have been using Customer Relationship Management Software (CRM) since University, about 34 years ago. At that time, I was using Maximizer for business and personal. Today I use Outlook as do many of my clients and contacts. I find this system to be extremely user friendly due to all the advances they have made to Outlook. I have other colleagues and friends that are using Salesforce as this cloud-based product is now one of the leaders in the industry.
Nonprofits too should be using CRM’s to manage relationships with prospects and donors. I am amazed that many nonprofit organizations that I assist are still using an Excel spreadsheet; and although certainly easy to use and cost efficient, there are many other great systems on the market that can do a much better job managing your nonprofit.
One of the biggest problems for most nonprofits is figuring out what CRM to use. At first when I came into the field of fundraising in 2003, Raiser’s Edge and DonorPerfect seemed to be a couple of CRM’s that were quite common.
Now I have used GiftWorks as well for a few clients, but every time I speak with someone in the industry I hear about additional products such as: eTapestry, Neon by Z2 Systems, The Data Bank, Exceed Basic or Exceed Premier, Fundraising 50 or Fundraising 100 by Sage, and Donor 2, to name only some of the many donor data bases out there.
All these choices can certainly lead to confusion and information overload. So, what does the customer do? I would invite you to start by visiting this article entitled: “A Few Good Donor Management Systems” by Idealware Staff; although this article is almost a decade old, it will still give you a good idea on the many donor data base CRM’s that are available to nonprofits.
If you would like to learn more about donor data bases, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me. I would be pleased to assist with fundraising for your nonprofit, or a nonprofit you may be associated with.
